Film Advice #7: The Shining

Hey Guy’s
The christmas days won’t be long in coming but here in berlin the snow is a long time coming. But one way or another this is the time to stay at home with your family and friends, have a nice dinner and watching movies together. For this cold and dark season I’ve got the right movie for you. A horror classic. Stanley Kubrick’s  “Shining”. I love this film. I am not a fan of horror films particularly those from today but the novel from Stephen King implemented by Stanley Kubrick will blow your fucking mind.
Watch it, if you haven’t already done so.

Plot: A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future.

Film Advice #6: The Fall

Good Morning
Inspirated by Zako Heskija’s tragedy “Yo ho ho” (1981), Tarsem Singh shows us  a unbeliveble epic story with strong and powerful images, elaborate dialogues and gorgeous locations. The opening title (see the video below) is accompany with music by the legendary seventh symphony of Beethoven. I think this is a film which you have to see twice or more to understand the messages and enjoy the images. I recommend the movie to the ones of you, who are interested in epic story about a group of different heroes, a story about revenge, about love. Enjoy.

Plot: In a hospital on the outskirts of 1920s Los Angeles, an injured stuntman begins to tell a fellow patient, a little girl with a broken arm, a fantastical story about 5 mythical heroes. Thanks to his fractured state of mind and her vivid imagination, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur as the tale advances.

The Fall (2006)
Director: Tarsem Singh
Actors: Lee Pace, Justine Waddell
Genre: Adventure, Drama, Fantasy
Running Time: 117 Min

One United Power – 1UP – DVD

Berlin
The 1UP Crew is one of the most famous Graffiti Crews from all over the world. Every writer know this name! The crew born and raised in Berlin city aka europe’s graffiti capital and of course are all members anonymous.
Now, after years of bombing, writing and running their first DVD will come out in December and it’ll be fucking gorgeous, I promise. The original version is in german with english subtitles that everyone can understand the messages.
I can proudly recommend this to everyone who is into graffiti or is interested in, because it’s really really special for a world-famous graffiti crew as 1Up is one, to show any audience their exclusive live actions, streetbombings, interviews and graffiti trips all over the world. Damn! Scarcely to be expected!

Studio Ghibli

Konichiwa,
The japanese Ghibli studios founded by Hayao Miyazaki (every animation film fan should know this name) and Isao Takahata  in 1985. This studio is one of the famoust animation film studios in the whole world.
Known for Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke or Howl’s Moving Castle.

I think every movie from this studio is kind of commendable. Nowadays anime-productions are always made with computers but the Ghibli films are still painted with hands and later they photograph them. You will notice that when you see those beautiful images. Also the soundtrack, for example by Joe Hisaishi, of a Ghibli movie is so touching and unbeaten. I present you now a short selection of some Ghibli Studio films. Check the trailer and watch them. Sayonara

Background information: In the past, films like Spirited Away were not published at the same time in America or Europe as they were published in Asia, because Walt Disney saw studios like Ghibli as a big rivalry and tries to ban the movies in every way till they buy up Ghiblis distribution. For me shows that Walt Disney is only interested in earning money and is not interested to create art or something special with animations films. So FUUUUU Disney.

Film Advice #5: City of God

Cidade de Deus

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The story is set in the 1970s in Rio de Janerio’s poor district Cidade de Deus, governed by poverty and violence. Orientated by the novel “City of God” (1997) from Paulo Lins who raised up in the city. After 5 years, Fernando Meirelles stages this novel into one of the best brazilian film. The soundtrack, the images, the actors and the serious question is very well implemented. I can recommend this great movie to all of you if you are interested in the hard life in the city of god.
Attention! Film Trailer = Spoiler!

Plot: Two boys growing up in a violent neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro take different paths: one becomes a photographer, the other a drug dealer.

The new work from spain’s star director  seems to be interesting.

Film Advice #4: Pi – π

Mathematic is the language of nature.

With a mix of breakcore and drum’n’base introduce you the title sequence into the first feature film from Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan, The Wrestler). The Film is shown in black&white and seems to be an underground hit. The director wanted to make a movie about god, math and badass jews. I am sure that this move inspirited films like Enter the Void. Another topics of this psychological thriller are drugs and psychology. The Film is about Max, a genius mathematician, who tries to decipher the numeric system till the whole world came crashing down around his ears. This film is stunning.

Check it out!

Pi (1998)
